Cyprus is working towards becoming an international hub for innovation, with the establishment of a large science and technology park in Pentakomo, just a 20-minute drive from Limassol. The Ministry of Energy, Trade and Industry of the Republic of Cyprus has announced the tender for this initiative.

The project's goal is to unite scientists, businesses, and government efforts in one location to foster the development of new technologies and bolster the Cypriot economy. The technopark aims to enhance Cyprus' competitiveness, diminish reliance on traditional sectors, and attract highly skilled professionals. A strategic investor for the project's implementation will be chosen through a competitive process.

What infrastructure will be developed?

  • Modular office spaces that can be customized to meet the needs of various companies and startups.
  • Research laboratories.
  • Business incubators to support emerging projects.
  • Coworking environments.
  • Data centers and advanced digital infrastructure featuring high-speed connectivity and modern security systems.
  • Conference rooms and exhibition spaces for events, meetings, and presentations of technological advancements.
  • Recreational areas, dining establishments, and playgrounds.
  • A residential complex for international professionals and guests.

A portion of the park will be designated for technology companies, accommodating firms in areas such as IT, telecommunications, microelectronics, automation and smart control systems, biomedical enterprises, robotics, as well as companies focused on energy and environmental solutions.

A key feature of the technopark will be testing centers for new technologies, particularly in the energy sector and digital product development, which will facilitate the rapid market introduction of innovations. The project also includes a startup support system that offers mentoring, legal assistance, and access to funding.

Priority areas for the technopark will include:

  • Energy and energy storage systems.
  • Nanotechnology.
  • Medicine and biotechnology.
  • Digital technologies, software development, and game development.

This technopark will emphasize scientific and technological advancement and will not include large shopping centers or entertainment complexes. The goal is to create a workspace that is also a comfortable and sustainable living space for social interaction. Facilities such as fitness areas, sports fields, and restaurants will be constructed to promote work-life balance, with 15% of the area allocated for green spaces and parks.

Children's centers for staff and guests may be established. A commitment to environmental sustainability, energy efficiency, and the use of renewable energy sources will be a priority. Additionally, a small residential complex with 50 rooms will be built to accommodate international experts, researchers, participants in exchange programs, and business partners.
