Controversial plans to build a multi-Euro golf course andresort complex at Limni at Polis Chrysochous have been approved after thelatest environmental study that found the plans fully met environmental lawsand recommendations of the European Commission.

After years of effort and submission of a series of specialstudies, Cyprus Limni Resorts and Golf Courses Plc announced that it hasfinally secured planning permission for the opulent Limni Bay Resort at PolisChrysochous.

Permission was granted after their latest environmentalstudy was found to be in accordance with the national environment legislationand all recommendations of the European Commission.

The environment impact study was having problems beingapproved as issues were raised over whether the turtles habitat in the areawould be put at risk by the project. The Limni Bay Resort includes two 18-holeSignature Golf Courses, a clubhouse for each course, a five-star hotel, villas, leisure facilities, a History Museum exhibiting the area’s cultural heritageand an extensive network of nature and cycling paths.

To achieve all of these goals, the company has brought ininternationally acclaimed US-based EDSA to design the Master plan andlandscape, the architectural design of villas, hotels, clubhouses, while thetwo golf courses, were designed by Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player, who areconsidered to be amongst the best golf course designers in the world.

Cyprus Limni Resorts and Golf Courses Plc said in itsannouncement that designs have taken into consideration the restoration of thenatural environment and the need for protection of the turtle nesting beach. Thecompany said it has already spent tens of millions of euros to restore thenatural environment in the area. And claim to have removed 12 million cubicmeters of mining waste left behind by the previous owners.

The Paphos project is expected to be completed within 3-5years after construction begins. The grand project was estimated to have cost€1.5 billion with plans including a small airport when announced by thecompany’s CEO Nicos Shacolas back in 2013. However, streamlined plans today donot include an airport, and the investment is believed to be roughly €800million.
